Govt decides to write off Rs 24-cr dues of MCCL
Shillong, Oct 13: The state government has cleared the decks for final closure of the Mawmluh Cherra Cement Limited (MCCL) by waiving the latter’s dues of over Rs 24 crore to the government.
The dues include Rs 8.9 crore sales tax and Rs 15.53 crore royalty pending against MCCL, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said after a cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
He said while the decision to close the company was taken long back and all employee dues have been settled, the pending government dues were blocking its formal closure.
“These were pending liabilities in the books of MCCL and we cannot close and wind up the company without clearing these dues,” Sangma said.
He said the cabinet decided to write off the amount as it would only be a book adjustment.
“Since MCCL is a government-owned company, the state government will have to pay MCCL and MCCL will again pay the departments. It will be a complete circle. To avoid unnecessary time and inconvenience, we decided to write it off. There is no financial impact,” he said.
