Defamation suit: Deputy Speaker appears in court

Shillong, Apr 11: Assembly deputy speaker Timothy D Shira on Friday appeared in the court to record his statement regarding the case filed by him against two YouTubers for allegedly wrongly quoting him on the demand for setting up a winter capital at Tura.

There are two cases on the matter and the case he appeared for on Friday is a criminal case while the other is a Rs 100-crore defamation suit.

Speaking to reporters, the deputy speaker ruled out any possibility of compromised settlement in the case.

“They (social media users) don’t have any remorse… no regrets from them… There will be no compromise. It has damaged my image so much…,” he said.
