Shillong, March 5: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Industries Sniawbhalang Dhar has carried out an inspection of a large-scale beverage bottling plant at Mendipathar in North Garo Hills district.
After the inspection, Dhar expressed satisfaction over establishment of the large-scale beverage production unit that manufactures well-known products such as Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Slice and 7UP.
The industry, Varun Beverages Limited, is expected to generate employment opportunities for around 400–500 people, which will greatly benefit the youth and local communities of the region, Dhar said.

He further highlighted that for the first time in the history of Meghalaya, such a large beverage manufacturing industry has been established in the state.
The plant is currently producing approximately two lakh bottles, which will not only cater to the local market but will also be supplied to other states, thereby strengthening Meghalaya’s industrial presence in the region.
The Deputy Chief Minister noted that the establishment of the plant is a significant step forward for industrial development in Meghalaya and reflects the government’s commitment to attracting investment, generating employment, and promoting economic growth across the state.
