
Guwahati, May 18: Dilip Saikia, Assam Pradesh BJP president and Member of Parliament from Darrang-Udalguri, has been named a recipient of the Sansad Ratna Award 2025, making history as the first MP from Northeast India to receive this prestigious honour.

The Sansad Ratna Award, instituted by the Prime Point Foundation in 2010, recognizes exceptional parliamentary performance and contributions to Indian democracy. This year’s awardees were selected by a jury panel led by Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, Chairperson of the National Commission for Backward Classes.

Saikia’s nomination is seen as a recognition of his consistent and impactful parliamentary work, underlining his commitment to public service and strengthening democratic institutions. His selection stands as a milestone not only for Assam but for the entire Northeastern region, highlighting its rising influence in national affairs.

A total of 17 MPs from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been nominated this year, along with two high-performing parliamentary standing committees: the Standing Committee on Finance and the Standing Committee on Agriculture.
Other notable MPs selected for the award include Bhartruhari Mahtab, N. K. Premachandran, Supriya Sule, Shrirang Appa Barne, Smita Uday Wagh, Arvind Ganpat Sawant, Naresh Ganpat Mhaske, Prof. Gaikwad Varsha Eknath, Dr. Medha Vishram Kulkarni, Praveen Patel, Ravindra Kishan Shukla, Dr. Nishikant Dubey, Bidyut Baran Mahato, P. P. Chaudhary, Madan Rathore, and C. N. Annadurai.

The Assam BJP has publicly congratulated Saikia, calling the award a proud moment for the state and the Northeast, and a reflection of the region’s growing role in shaping national policies and governance.
