
Guwahati, June 4: In a major win against inter-state drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Guwahati Zonal Unit, secured the conviction of a smuggler caught transporting a massive consignment of ganja.

The case dates back to October 20, 2020, when NCB officials intercepted a truck en route from Tripura to Guwahati. During the operation, officers discovered 1,354.990 kilograms of ganja hidden inside the vehicle’s tank. One individual was arrested at the scene.
Following a detailed investigation, the NCB confirmed the accused’s role in the cross-border trafficking of ganja. A complaint was subsequently filed before the court.
On May 28, 2025, the Additional District and Sessions Court, Kamrup (Metro), convicted the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The court sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh.
This conviction underscores the NCB’s continued efforts to fulfil its mission of a Drug-Free India.
