Drugs worth ₹12 cr seized, ₹191 cr destroyed

Shillong, Jan 29: Meth tablets worth over ₹12 crore was seized by customs sleuths from two scooties at Rangirkhari Point on Sonai-Silchar Road, Assam recently.

The motorbikes were coming from Churachandpur in Manipur towards Silchar when they were intercepted on Sunday evening.

The contraband drug wrapped packages were found deeply concealed inside each scooty.

The orange colour tablets found inside were tested and confirmed the presence of methamphetamine, stated an official release.

Two persons were also arrested.

Meanwhile, Customs officials carried out a Drug Destruction Drive at Shillong, Guwahati, Imphal, Dimapur and Karimganj last week.

A total of 15.90 kg heroin, 92.776 kg metamphetamine tablets, 355.40 gm cocaine and 1567.16 kg ganja valued at ₹191 crore were disposed of in secure and environmentally responsible manner, customs officials said.
