Shillong, Sep 15: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has paid his heartfelt tribute to former Chief Minister DD Lapang, who passed away at the age of 91 on September 12.
Dhar said the demines of the five-time Chief Minister is a significant loss to Meghalaya and its people.
The minister also shared his personal experience of working with Lapang, highlighting his unique character, discipline, and punctuality.
Recalling Lapang’s sense of responsibility even when he was not in good health, Dhar said he would personally call MLAs and ministers to advise them to serve the people.
He also praised Lapang for being a responsible leader who was never selective about whom he would meet.
In Lapang’s words, he said, “We are for the people,” and “In politics, there is no permanent friend and no permanent enemy, but what is permanent is to serve the people.”
Dhar expressed his deepest condolences to Lapang’s family and thanked them for giving the state such a leader.
He described Lapang as a tallest leader with a unique character, who left behind a legacy for generations to come.
