EJ Hills SP transferred

Shillong, Feb 15: In the wake of the mine blast at Mynsngat-Thangsko claiming over 30 lives, the East Jaintia Hills district superintendent of police Vikash Kumar has been transferred and to be replaced by Pankaj Rasgania, the SP of Anti-Narcotic Task Force.

The move follows constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the blast inside the illegal coal mine.

“In order to ensure a fair, impartial and expeditious investigation…the DGP, Meghalaya is pleased to constitute a special investigation team with immediate effect,” stated an order issued by the DGP recently.

The SIT, headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Eastern Range) Vivekanand S Rathore, must ascertain causes and circumstances, probe violations of court orders and NGT directions, and submit time-bound findings, it stated.
