EK Hills BDOs to handle birth, death registration services

Shillong, June 26: Block development officers (BDOs) in East Khasi Hills have been authorised to issue birth and death registration certificates with the BDOs allowed to act as Executive Magistrates for such cases.

This will bring a huge relief to people staying in far-flung areas of the district, sparing them the trouble of visiting Shillong, the district headquarters, for such work.

In an order issued Friday, the Deputy Commissioner stated that BDOs across the district will now handle registration, correction, cancellation, delayed registration, and other related matters for applicants within their respective jurisdictions.

“Applications are to be submitted to the respective Block Development Offices for timely disposal of the same,” the order said.

The order, which will come to effect immediately, aims at ensuring faster disposal of cases at the block level.

Officials said the move will ease access for applicants in rural areas who earlier had to travel to Shillong for certificates, corrections, or delayed registrations.
