Shillong, Aug 31: Footballer Sanfida Nongrum has been named Women’s Young Player of the Year at the Football Players’ Association of India (FPAI) Awards.
She is the first woman from Meghalaya to receive the honour.
Congratulating her for the achievement, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla said, “A proud and inspiring achievement for Meghalaya! I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Sanfida Nongrum on being named Women’s Young Player of the Year at the FPAI Awards.”
He also termed the honour to Sanfida “a remarkable milestone and a testament to her talent, dedication and perseverance.”
“Her achievement is not only a matter of personal pride but also an inspiration to countless young girls and aspiring athletes across our state,” Shylla said in a post on X.
He further wished her to “reach greater heights and inspire the next generation of Meghalaya’s sporting talent.”
