Four of family killed in wall collapse in Uttarkashi

Dehradun, June 20: Four members of a family were killed early Friday when a wall of their house collapsed in Uttarkashi district, an official said.

The incident took place at 2 am in Gujjar colony of revenue village Odata in Mori area when the family was asleep, Uttarkashi District Disaster Management Office said.

Teams of the administration and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the colony located about one km above the main road and search and relief operations were launched.

All the four bodies have been recovered from the debris, it said.

They were identified as Ghulam Hussain (26), his wife Rukma Khatoon (23), their son Abid (three) and their ten-month-old daughter Salma.

Mori’s revenue police officer Jabbar Singh Aswal said the recent rains in the area or the weak condition of the house could be the possible reason for the collapse. (PTI)
