Shillong, Jul 23: It is a tale of ambition and achievement, when the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, personally visited Japan to meet a group of extraordinary nurses from his state who have embarked on a life-changing journey.
These nurses, now thriving in Kobe, Japan, are a testament to the transformative power of opportunity and determination, driven by the visionary initiatives of the Government of Meghalaya.

The story began in May 2023, when the government organized a groundbreaking job fair in Shillong, aimed at connecting Meghalaya’s talented nurses with global opportunities. Over 1,300 nurses attended, eager to showcase their skills. Through strategic partnerships with international HR companies, the initiative bore fruit: 27 nurses secured prestigious placements in Japan, with another 18 finding opportunities in Singapore.
During his visit to Kobe, Chief Minister, accompanied by officials from the Health & Family Welfare Department, met with the nurses to ensure their well-being. This group, the second batch of nurses placed in Japan, radiated pride and gratitude. Among them was Laikyrmen Khardewsaw, a nurse at Kobe Kaisei Hospital, hailing from the small village of Umtrewsaw in Ri Bhoi district. Reflecting on her journey, she shared, “The path from my village to Japan was filled with challenges, but with the support of God, my family, and friends, it became a beautiful adventure. I’m living my dream in Kobe.”

Another nurse, Jenisha Lyngdoh, also at Kobe Kaisei Hospital, expressed heartfelt gratitude: “I thank Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Conrad K Sangma and the MSSDS team for this incredible opportunity. Working in Japan was a dream for many of us, and through their support, we’ve gained invaluable experiences that will shape our futures.”
The Chief Minister, visibly moved by the nurses’ stories, expressed immense satisfaction with the program’s success. “We are thrilled to see the warm, supportive environment at Kobe Kaisei Hospital. Our nurses are not just adapting-they are thriving. This is a golden opportunity for all who aspire to take their skills global,” he said.

This initiative is more than a job placement program; it’s a beacon of hope, showcasing how vision, collaboration, and resilience can transform lives.
From the villages of Meghalaya to the hospitals of Japan, thanks to the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Shri Conrad K Sangma and the determination of the nurses, today, they are writing a spectacular success story, inspiring countless others to dream limitless.
