Tura, July 29: The A’CHIK Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) organization that was in the limelight a year ago for the infamous stone pelting incident during the presence of the chief minister, is facing an internal feud resulting in the removal of its own president.
The executive committee of the ACHIK organization on Monday announced the suspension of its president, Thomas M. Marak, on grounds of alleged misuse and abuse of authority. The action on the president led to a chain reaction, with the group’s Vice President Greneth Sangma from Mindikgre in South Garo Hills, also tendering his resignation amidst similar accusations.
The decision against the group’s head was reportedly taken in a special meeting of the council on Saturday in the presence of executive members of the council.
In a letter dispatched to their president, Thomas M. Marak, informing him of the council’s decision, the EC members informed that the suspension was due to allegations against Marak for overriding council resolutions, unauthorized approval of organizational units, and centralizing leadership against ACHIK’s democratic principles. Concerns have also been raised about his interference in organizational operations and promotion of groups without council approval, alleged the EC members.
Marak’s duties have been revoked, and the responsibilities will be assumed by the Working President and General Secretary during an ongoing investigation. An inquiry committee has also been established to ensure a fair examination of the issues at hand, the letter said.
