Garo group meets Education minister over recruitment issues

Shillong, July 9: A garo group on Tuesday urged the state government to speed up the recruitment of lower and upper primary school teachers.

During a meeting between a delegation of the All Garo Hills MTET Passed Candidates Association 2021 and 2023 and Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, the group expressed frustration over the delay which has caused ‘uncertainty and hardship’ to thousands of qualified candidates.

The group requested the minister to relax the age criteria for candidates who have crossed the maximum age limit due to the non-conduct of recruitment examinations for many years.

The delegation also suggested that recruitment be conducted batch-wise, giving due preference to the 2021 and 2023 MTET passed candidates.

The association pointed out the discrepancy in the MTET pass criteria between 2021/2023 and 2025, and requested due preference to be given to candidates who passed under stricter norms.

The association also expressed hope for urgent and positive action to ensure justice for all affected candidates and to strengthen the education system in the state .
