Governor hails Meghalaya’s diverse culture

Shillong, Nov 18: Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar praised the state’s rich cultural diversity and longstanding commitment to peace, mutual respect and coexistence while addressing at the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) held at Raj Bhavan’s Dorbar Hall for commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on Tuesday.

Vijayashankar stressed that unity does not signify uniformity but the celebration of differences while working together for collective progress.

He also urged citizens to remain committed to building a stronger and more prosperous India, expressing hope that the spirit of unity would continue to guide Meghalaya and the nation toward peace, development and a brighter future.

Vijayashankar expressed his appreciation to the Meghalaya Police, BSF, CRPF, teachers and students for their participation in the event.

The governor during his speech also emphasized the need for vigilance in safeguarding national integrity.

He noted that threats to unity can arise not only from external forces but also from within the country, urging citizens to remain aware and committed to preserving the nation’s cohesion.

“It is our duty to maintain the unity, integrity and dignity of Bharat Mata,” the governor said.

He underscored the enduring relevance of Sardar Patel’s legacy, describing him as the “Iron Man of India” who laid the foundation for national unity, stability and progress.

The Governor recalled Sardar Patel’s pivotal role in integrating princely states and shaping modern India, calling it one of the greatest political achievements. He also emphasized Patel’s contribution to building a strong governance framework through the establishment of the All India Services—IAS, IPS and IFS—describing them as the “steel frame of India” that continues to uphold administrative continuity and national cohesion.
