Governor lauds participatory governance in Meghalaya

Shillong, Jan 25: Governor CH Vijayashankar has lauded the participatory governance systems of Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia communities, which resonate with the core values of democracy.

Addressing the National Voter’s Day celebration at U Soso Tham Auditorium on Saturday, the governor also highlighted Meghalaya’s unique democratic ethos, deeply rooted in its indigenous traditions.

Appreciating the Election Commission of India and the State Election Department for their efforts in conducting free, fair, and transparent elections, he also credited them for the record-breaking turnout of 76.61 per cent turnout in the 18th Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

The programme titled “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure” was also attended by chief secretary DP Wahlang, CEO BDR Tiwari and East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner Rosetta Mary Kurbah.
