Govt adopts portal route to speed up teachers’ salary

Shillong, Feb 17: The state government has adopted a new system of processing salary proposals of government teachers through Meghalaya School Information Management System (MegSIMS) portal to eliminate delay in the process, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui informed the assembly on Tuedsay.

Replying to a question from TMC legislator Dr Mizanur Kazi, Rymbui said there is no delay in disbursement of salary for government teachers, although there is still delay in paying salary to other categories of teachers.

“We have cleared the teachers’ salaries till December 2025,” he added.

Citing procedural factors in processing payments, he said the government had introduced a new system to speed up sanctions.

Meanwhile, he denied when asked if salary for ad-hoc and grant-in-aid teachers had been diverted. “No, sir, there is no diversion of salary. Salary meant for teachers is paid for the teachers,” he said.

The minister confirmed that the cabinet had approved a structured pay framework for teachers.

“The problem of teachers is one of the major issues. I am thankful to the chief minister and cabinet for approving it for all categories of grant-in-aid teachers, bringing them under one roof,” he said. The pay structure will come into effect from April 1, 2026.

Rymbui added that separate budget heads exist for salaries and that the new system was intended to resolve years of irregularity.

“The only issue is that for so many years delays have been there. To streamline all this, the government has come up with a new system to ease the mind of teachers so that they get salary on time,” he said.

Leader of Opposition Dr Mukul Sangma flagged salary disparities between categories. “We need to take cognizance of this huge disparity and give justice to such teachers,” he said.

Responding, Rymbui said the government had issued a notification on February 12, 2026 revising teachers’ salaries.

“We recognize the contribution of teachers…I am thankful to the chief minister to bring parity in the pay. We have issued this notification, and it will be implemented with effect from April 1, 2026, which will ease the problem of teachers,” he said.
