Govt can’t allow ‘political dramas’: Ampareen

Shillong, Sept 17: Cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Tuesday urged “others” not to disturb “our culture, our practice, our tradition”, while deploring a proposed pro-Hindu procession in the city on October 2.

“The government cannot allow political dramas to upset the peace in Meghalaya,” Lyngdoh asserted while reacting to the Gau Dhwaj yatra, which seeks to declare cow as “mother of the nation” and also a ban on cow slaughter.

“We have our own culture. We have our own customs. Just as much as travelling to another state makes us respect those sentiments of the state we are travelling to, we request others also not to disturb our culture, our practice our tradition,” she said

“The law will prevail and we cannot allow these political dramas to upset the peace of the people of the state,” she added.

She also expressed her opposition to enforcing any ban on something, which is not suitable in Meghalaya.
