Shillong, Nov 19: The challenges and loopholes in the Public Distribution System (PDS) and possible technical interventions to mitigate the challenges came up for discussion at a meeting with United Nations World Food Programme (UN-WFP) here on Monday.
The meeting was organised to strengthen PDS and mapping out future collaborative efforts to enhance the food security in the state, according to an official statement.
“The meeting discussion was centred on the current PDS challenges and key areas for improvement and exploration of innovative technologies and strategies to enhance transparency and accountability in the PDS supply chain in context to Meghalaya,” it said.
Food and civil supplies minister Coming One Ymbon, and UN-WFP country director Elisabeth Faure attended the meeting that also discussed formulation of a collaborative roadmap that aligns with the state’s objective for food security in Meghalaya.
The meeting was held as part of an initiative to share best practices from other states and global insights on successful models implemented by WFP in the country.
