Shillong, Apr 21: In view of the high pass percentage of SSLC examination this year, the state government is likely to decide soon on several measures to accommodate more students at higher secondary level in the state.
The government will soon take a call on upgrading secondary schools to higher secondary schools, introducing new streams and opening of new shifts, said director of School Education Literacy, Banteilang J Kharshandi, after a meeting chaired by commissioner & secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri with DSEOs and SDSEOs on class XI admission here on Monday.
Meanwhile, the government has already directed all district school education officers (DSEOs) to supply admission forms to all successful students of SSLC examination this year.
The government will also decide on upgrading the four government secondary schools to higher secondary schools, he said.

Depending on the response from students, the DSEOs will decide on the proposal for introduction of new streams in various institutions, the director said.
“All the proposals will be finalised by tomorrow by DSEOs before we take up with the cabinet,” Kharshandi said.
Accordingly, the department will appoint teachers based on the assessment to be made by the DSEO.
He, however, maintained that if there are only 8-10 students, it would not be justified for the government to open up a new stream and appoint teachers.
To run the additional classes, the director said, temporary appointments can be given to all the teachers.
After taking into account private institutions, the total number of institutions will be sufficient to accommodate all the students this year.
