Shillong, Jan 11: The state government has raised the minimum wages of skilled and unskilled workers and enhanced cess collection to benefit over 80,000 registered workers in the state.
Terming it a landmark decision, chief minister Conrad K Sangma said minimum wages for workers falling under the highly skilled category will now get ₹645 from ₹586, skilled at ₹605 from ₹530, semi-skilled at ₹565 from ₹474 and unskilled at ₹525 from ₹419.
He said all organisations have to implement the revised rate failing which, the affected people have been urged to submit their complaints to the labour department for necessary actions.
The chief minister also informed that the cabinet approved the amendment to Meghalaya Buildings and Other Construction Workers Regulation and Employment Condition Rules, 2008 by which the government has enhanced the cess collected for welfare of the registered workers.
There are about 80,000 or 85,000 workers registered with the state government, the chief minister said.
“The amendment will ensure higher benefits to the registered labourers in the state with regards to medical, education of children, welfare pension, disability pension and family pension,” Sangma said.
With the amendment, the beneficiary families will now get higher amounts, he said.
