Govt ready to support NEHU for ‘larger interest’

Shillong, Nov 27: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said the state government is ready to support North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) with information and other assistance in the larger interest of the students.

“We would like to see that things stabilise and students’ lives are not affected, students’ career and education are not affected… that’s what larger interest,” he said on Wednesday.

Asked if the Centre should consult the state for appointment of the VC, Sangma said, “That is something entirely up to the committee… state government does not normally intervene into day-to-day functioning of a central university.”

However, he made it clear that the government is ready to offer any kind of support to resolve the NEHU dispute.

“I was asked to speak to Delhi and I did that and based on those communications and multiple conversations… inquiry committee was put up, “he said.

“So we have done our part, we will continue to do our part,” he added.
