Two major projects to connect Shillong with airport under way
Shillong, Sep 14: The state government has sanctioned construction of a new 11-km-long two-lane road to connect Nongkohlew with New Shillong.
Informing about the significant infrastructure project, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the road will be undertaken at a cost of Rs 135.5 crore.
Meanwhile, two major projects are under way to connect Shillong city with Shillong Airport at Umroi.
The 14-km road being constructed under NESIDS is 71% complete while the 14-20 km road under CRIF has achieved 76% progress.
These projects are crucial for enhancing road connectivity between Shillong and the airport, said Tynsong.
Meanwhile, several other road projects are currently under construction or in various stages of planning.
These projects include: Lummawsing to Mawsiatkhnam road (75% complete), Mawlai Motsyiar to Mawla Umjaiur road (90% complete), Mawlai Nongkwar (Block 6) to Patarim (Block II) road (95% complete), Mawlai Nongpdeng Block-A to Block-B road (work order issued), Mawlai Nongkwar (Block II to Block 3B) road (work order issued), Office of the Dorbar Shnong Mawsiatkhnam to PHC Mawsiatkhnam road (estimate under process) and Mawlai Stand Bus to Kynton Massar road (tendering under process).
The estimate for Lummawnew-Nongpathaw road is under process. The final work order was issued recently for construction of the ISBT Mawiong to Lumpyllon road, but the work was yet to start.
At present, there is no proposal for construction of a road from Mawtawar to New Shillong via Mawpat village, he said.
