Govt seeks NOC to build PMGSY roads along border

Shillong, April 22: The state government has directed the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and Border Security Force (BSF) to issue No Objection Certificates (NOC) for construction of PMGSY-III roads in the Meghalaya sector of Indo-Bangla border.

The directive was issued by Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home and PWD (Roads & Buildings) Prestone Tynsong in a meeting with BSF and CPWD officials on Wednesday.

A stretch of the sanctioned PMGSY-III roads is in Ranikor area where the current road is under CPWD and BSF.

“The sanction has been accorded for reconstruction of roads, but we need no objection certificate from both CPWD as well as BSF,” he told reporters.

Another issue raised by the state government in the meeting was certain road stretches in Garo Hills lie outside the border fencing.

“There are stretches which go outside the fencing, not inside the fencing,” he said.

Mentioning that the BSF wants the state government to realign such roads and bring them inside the fencing, but Bangladesh side won’t allow any such realignment.

Tynsong said both CPWD and BSF have been instructed to issue the necessary NOC so that work can be started start immediately.

“We have taken a decision and they (CPWD and BSF) will also take it up with the higher authority then ultimately they will issue us NOC for construction of the roads,” he added.
