Shillong, Apr 3: The state government has sought views from all grant-in-aid schools for launching the “Meghalaya Education Grant” (MEG) scheme in order to bring down the number of categories of schools, according to Aristotle C Rymbai, president of Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA).

MEG has proposed to transfer the school management solely to Education department among other things, Rymbai said after a general meeting of all SSA teachers, convened to share the outcome of five rounds of discussion between MSSASA and Education department on the issue, here on Saturday.

According to Rymbai, the government concerned over “too many categories of schools” in the state has proposed the idea of MEG during a meeting on May 2.

MEG seeks to cover all grant-in-aid schools – deficit, ad hoc and SSA – which are willing to hand over their management to the government.

As per the guidelines, there should be only one school management i.e. Education department.

The government has given time till May 31 for the stakeholders to submit their views and suggestions, Rymbai said.

In order to follow the Central guidelines that there should not be any difference between SSA and government schools, the government also informed SSA teachers about the need for school management committees (SMCs) to submit NOC to hand over their management to the Education department.
