Govt submits report to HC on limestone mining

Shillong, July 10: The state government has submitted to Meghalaya High Court a report of inquiry into allegations of illegal mining of limestone by Amrit Cement Industries in Jaintia Hills.

The report was submitted during the hearing of a PIL filed by one Ranjit Chandra Goshwami on Thursday.

The PIL was filed based on RTI information suggesting Amrit Cement Industries Limited did not have a valid license for mining limestone.

According to information, the company was allegedly using illegally mined limestone in its factory to produce cement.

The next hearing is on July 24.
