Govt to set up Meghalaya House in Greater Noida

Shillong, Dec 20: The state government has decided to acquire land at Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh to build a Meghalaya House in order to cater to growing accommodation needs of the state’s students and residents travelling to the National Capital Region.

The move is also aimed at providing essential accommodation especially with the upcoming development of Jewar International Airport in the region.

“The cabinet has approved the purchase of land in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, for Meghalaya House. With the Jewar airport coming up, it will become a very important centre,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters after a cabinet meeting on Friday.

The transaction is a government‑to‑government deal, involving acquisition of 8,000 sq m of land at a cost of Rs 32 crore, a rate set by the Uttar Pradesh government, he said.

The proposed Meghalaya House will serve as a hub for official and student accommodation, facilitating easier access to educational institutions, government offices, and the forthcoming airport.

The project is expected to strengthen the state’s presence in the NCR and enhance services for Meghalaya’s diaspora in the region.
