GST crackdown: Raids on coke industries in Assam over alleged tax evasion

Guwahati, Mar 16: The Central Goods and Services Tax (GST) department has intensified its crackdown on alleged tax evasion in Assam’s coke industry. In a series of raids conducted over the past week, officials targeted multiple coke manufacturing units, including Maa Kamakhya Coke in Gauripur, Goalpara district, amid allegations of large-scale GST evasion.

Registered in 2016, Maa Kamakhya Coke Industries has gained immense expertise in supplying & trading Coke and Coke Breeze. Pearl coke, met coke etc. The supplier company is located in Guwahati, Assam and is one of the leading sellers of listed products.

According to sources, the coke industry has been procuring coal from suppliers using fraudulent invoices and fake challans, thereby evading substantial tax payments to the central government. Officials suspect these suppliers may not have genuine business operations and exist only on paper to facilitate tax fraud.

In a parallel operation, another team of Central GST officials raided the office of Maa Kamakhya Coke Industries in Beltola, Guwahati, and seized key documents believed to be linked to the ongoing investigation. Authorities are currently analyzing the confiscated materials to trace financial irregularities and identify other potential offenders in the supply chain.

Sources indicate that the crackdown is far from over. The investigating agency is planning further raids on coal dealers operating in Guwahati, who are suspected to be part of the illicit network. Officials believe that uncovering the full extent of these fraudulent transactions could reveal a significant tax evasion racket involving multiple entities across the state.
