Raj Bhavan holds meeting to discuss state’s infrastructure development
Shillong, Nov 6: Governor CH Vijayashankar sought collaborative approach between the state and central agencies to ensure timely execution of projects that will benefit the people of Meghalaya.
Delegations from PWD, NHAI and NHIDCL attended the meeting on Tuesday which was called to discuss the infrastructure progress of the state including maintenance and construction of national highways, improving water supply infrastructure, and strategies to enhance connectivity across the state, which is vital for the socio-economic growth of the state.
Governor Vijayashankar emphasized on the importance of alternative by-pass for Shillong connecting other districts to avoid traffic and the widening or upgradation of existing roads to national highways.
He also discussed the status of drinking water, street lights, road and drainage in New Shillong City.
The meeting was attended by Barilang W Phira, Secretary Transport, Government of Meghalaya; S. Choudhary, Director National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and Bijau Patir, Director National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL).
The delegations assured the governor of their commitment to fast-tracking ongoing projects and addressing any challenges in coordination with the state government.
NEHU professors felicitated
Meanwhile, Governor Vijayashankar held a special meeting where he presented appreciation letters to Prof Timir Tripathi, Department of Zoology and Dr Shruti Shukla, Department of Nano-Technology, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong.
The two professors have been ranked among the top 2% scientists in the world by Stanford University, USA for the year 2024, in recognition of their remarkable contributions to their respective fields of research.
The professors were honored for bringing global recognition to NEHU and the state of Meghalaya.
Expressing pride in their accomplishments, the governor said, “Your achievements are a testament to the intellectual capabilities that exist in Meghalaya. The state is proud of this contribution to science and academia.”
The professors shared their gratitude and expressed their commitment to continuing their research and contributing to the development of scientific knowledge. The governor lauded their spirit of perseverance and encouraged them to keep pursuing excellence in their respective fields.
