HANM to stage demo in Delhi in Feb ’24

Demands for ILP, and Khasi, Garo in 8th Schedule

Shillong, Nov 2: The demands for Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya and inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in Eighth Schedule are all set to rend the air in the national capital in February next year.

Members of Hynniewtrep Achik Awakening Movement (HANM) will stage a demonstration for fulfilling the two demands at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on 25 February 2024.

Delhi police has granted permission to HANM for staging the demonstration, HANM president Lamphrang Kharbani said on Friday.

A HANM delegation, he said, handed over a copy of its memorandum with the two demands to BJP Rajya Sabha MP Rakhesh Sinha, who is also BJP in-charge of North East, in New Delhi recently.

The MP had assured to take up the matter with higher authorities and also visit Meghalaya to discuss the issues in detail, he said.
