Haryana governor announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for families of Rohtak market fire victims

Chandigarh, Jun 11: Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the Rohtak market fire incident.

The devastating blaze, which engulfed several establishments in one of the city’s oldest and busiest market areas on June 9, claimed three lives and caused extensive damage to several shops.

According to an official statement on Thursday, Governor Ghosh, while expressing profound grief over the loss of lives, conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.

He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident and further instructed the district administration to ensure free and adequate medical treatment for the injured persons at government hospitals.

The governor directed the Rohtak Deputy Commissioner to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the losses caused by the fire and submit a detailed report at the earliest to the government.

He emphasised the need for prompt action to ensure that all affected persons receive necessary assistance and support.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had also announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the next of kin of those killed in the fire in the D-Park market area of Rohtak city.

Besides ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased, financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the injured had also been announced by the chief minister.

The exact cause of the fire is a matter of investigation, officials said earlier. (PTI)
