Hek seeks Shah’s advice on way to form BJP’s own Govt

Shillong, Sept 12: The BJP in Meghalaya has emerged as an independent political force to form its own government in Meghalaya, senior BJP leader Alexander Laloo Hek said after his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Friday.

Hek called on Shah amid reports doing rounds about at least eight UDP MLAs negotiating with the BJP to join the latter anytime soon.

Issuing a statement after the meeting, Hek said he had the privilege of meeting Shah for a detailed discussion on the state’s political situation.

On FCRA Bill, which has triggered concerns among Christian groups, Hek said Shah informed him that consultations are already on.

“The Home Minister said he has already met at least 35 Christian forums and leaders regarding the matter. At present, the Bill has been referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee for further discussion. After the JPC process is completed, he will invite us to Delhi for further discussions with Christian stakeholders,” Hek said.

Hek said he presented his reading of Meghalaya politics and the BJP’s prospects.

“I shared my assessment of the emerging political scenario and our vision for the coming days. There is a clear opportunity before us to emerge as a strong, credible and independent political force,” he said.

Pitching for a bigger role for the BJP, Hek said, “I sought Shri Amit Shah Ji’s guidance, encouragement and blessings to strengthen our organisation across the state, earn the confidence of the people, and work towards forming our own government.”

Stating that the political equations in the state are changing rapidly, Hek said, “The political scenario is changing, and the coming days will be decisive. We are prepared to seize this opportunity with determination and discipline.”

“Our goal is not merely to participate in Meghalaya’s politics, but to provide strong, stable and accountable leadership through a government of our own,” he asserted.
