Kharkutta MLA expects Timothy D Shira to intervene in expediting road works
Shillong, Sep 19: After a gap of 15 years, North Garo Hills district has got a representation in the state cabinet as Resubelpara MLA Timothy D Shira was inducted as a minister in the recent cabinet reshuffle.
Pointing this out on Friday, Kharkutta MLA Rupert Momin lauded Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s decision to induct Shira into the cabinet.
Shira, who resigned as Deputy Speaker ahead of his induction in the council of ministers, was allocated Tourism, Agriculture and Fisheries departments.
Highlighting the need for improvement in road connectivity in North Garo Hills as some roads need urgent repair, the Kharkutta MLA expected the hope that Shira’s induction in cabinet will expedite the process of road construction and improvement work in the district.
Momin, also Chairman of Meghalaya New And Renewable Energy Development Agency (MNREDA) also gave a detailed account of roads that need urgent repair in the district.
The Mendipathar-Songsak road, built using German technology, is in need of repair due to heavy truck traffic to Mendipathar railway station. The Resubelpara to 100-bed Hospital Road also requires fresh construction, he said.
On Kharkutta-Darangiri and Mendipathar-Krishnai roads, Momin said some portions of these roads are yet to be repaired, affecting the transportation of local produces such as bananas, are canut, and broomsticks.
He informed that Adokgre-Mangsang road has been completed, while Mendipathar-Songsak road is in the pipeline and has already been sanctioned.
Momin expressed hope that with Timothy D Shira’s induction as minister, the district’s road connectivity issues will be addressed.
He added that the government is working to connect main villages with good roads within the next two years.
