Shillong, Aug 19: The Assembly’s Estimates Committee has directed the contractor concerned to complete construction of Umsning Community & Rural Development (C&RD) Block office building by November this year.
The directive came after a spot inspection of the building by the committee led by UDP MLA Mayralborn Syiem.
Pointing out the delay in completion of the C&RD Block building caused by several issues, Syiem said the committee received a detailed briefing from officials during the inspection.
“The Committee has directed the contractor to complete the work by November 2025,” said the MLA from Nongpoh constituency.
Stating that the government seeks to complete all C&RD Block office buildings across the state on time, he expressed the hope that the new C&RD Block office at Umsning will be operational soon.
Once completed, the office will provide improved services to the public, including headmen, village organisations (VOs), NGOs, and self-help groups, he said.
The committee also inspected the ITI and Polytechnic projects, noting progress in the latter but delays in the former due to infrastructure and utility issues.
“The Polytechnic project is progressing well and is expected to be completed in the coming months, which will benefit students through various technical courses. However, the ITI project has faced delays due to issues such as approach road construction, external electrification, and water supply,” Syiem said.
“The Committee has taken note of these challenges and will pursue them with the departments concerned to ensure the project becomes functional at the earliest,” he added.
Syiem was accompanied by committee members Wailadmiki Shylla (Jowai), Remington Gabil Momin (Rambrai Jyrngam), Charles Marngar (Mawhati), and Adelbert Nongrum (North Shillong).
Umsning MLA Dr Celestine Lyngdoh also joined the team during the inspection at Umsning.
