HYC denies involvement in death of ‘drug addict’

Shillong, Jan 21: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has denied any involvement in the assault of a person, who succumbed to his injuries days after the attack at Khyndailad here recently.

Asserting that HYC was being falsely implicated in the case due to “jealousy” about its activities, HYC general secretary Isaac Basaiawmoit said the FIR, however, had no mention of the organisation’s involvement in the case.

He was summoned by the Sadar police in connection with the death of the person, who was allegedly a drug addict.

“There are people who are instigating and alleging that we are involved, as they are jealous of the HYC’s activities,” Basaiawmoit said.

He also claimed to have assurance from police that there was no evidence pointing to the HYC’s involvement in the assault that led to the death.

The person was assaulted at MUDA complex at Khyndailad on November 23, 2025, and he succumbed to his injuries at Nazareth Hospital on December 4, 2025.

Basaiawmoit alleged that some individuals are instigating the family members, falsely implicating the HYC.

“We will meet the family members later,” he said, adding that the police are still investigating the matter.
