Integrated Command and Control Centre opens at Umsawli

Shillong, Nov 20: The Integrated Command and Control Centre, a one-stop centre for surveillance, disaster management, dissemination of information and management of daily city operations, was inaugurated by chief minister Conrad Sangma at Umsawli here on Wednesday.

In his address, the chief minister said, “ICCC is the brain of entire Shillong smart city.”

Being an open Application Programming Interface (API), this platform can connect different IT related activities and it has immense potential, he said.

He also urged the departments such as IT, Urban, Police and Municipal to work out SOPs and have the systems in place in order to use the available technology to turn Shillong into a smart city.

He also mooted the idea of turning Meghalaya into a data centre hub of not only the North East but the entire eastern region.

“We are working aggressively to ensure that we are able to land the submarine cables in Shillong and our goal is to connect every block and every district in a complete IT network,” he said.

City Surveillance System has been set up at 96 locations, Smart Poles at 20 locations and Variable Message Display at 20 locations.

Deputy chief minister (Urban Affairs) Sniawbhalang Dhar, chief secretary DP Wahlang, DGP Idashisha Nongrang, commissioner and secretary (urban affairs) Vijay Kumar, commissioner and secretary (information technology) Pravin Bakshi, headmen of different locations of Shillong city and officials from police, urban and municipal departments were also present on the occasion.
