Shillong, Nov 28: The performance of Meghalaya as a state should be not judged on the current data as it may show lack of momentum in comparison to other states in terms of growth, said chief minister Conrad Sangma while addressing Standard Development Goal SDG Conference as part of the Indo-German Technical Co-operation.
Instead, he said DELTA (Data, Evaluation, Learning, Technology, and Analysis) should be the yardstick, which is the net average of growth rate of the state.
In this regard, he assured, the government is moving in the right direction because it has laid the correct foundations.
Meghalaya is the third state after Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh to partner with GIZ in promoting the SDG agenda namely the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP).
NITI Aayog and German government agency GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) are key partners in the initiative.
In his address, Sangma, said, “Without a goal, there is no mission or objective and a clear sense of purpose is the beginning for any organisation, team or individual for any government to move forward.”
He added that the government has been working for the past few years with a lot of thought and planning.
“We can see a healthy energy and passion especially from the young officers who work in the team and this can be said of the various programs of the government which has a direct impact in the grassroots level,” he said.
“It is the intention to ignite the minds and create purpose and passion in the individuals working and associated in all levels of the government,” he added.
He further said that the government is also adapting and evolving the goals and targets of the state to drive the state forward.
He also highlighted the government’s intervention to bring in efficiency through convergence, communication and co-operation through the Cabinet Retreat where Cabinet Ministers along with officials and staff of different departments would gather in one place to be able to connect and re-orient their goals and objectives.
He further emphasised on the importance of taking feedback from the public and spoke further on the programmes of the government to build this connect and stressed the importance of two-way communication with no inhibitions.
