Shillong, Mar 19: The Karnataka government has decided to shift the 22 students from Meghalaya, who are recovering after being infected by food poisoning, to a rehabilitation centre after their release from the hospital.
Responsible government officers will monitor their diet plan as prescribed by the doctor at Bala Mandir Center under the guidance of child protection officer in Mandya district.
The decision was taken in a meeting convened by Mandya district magistrate (DM) and attended by officials from various line departments, including education department, child welfare committee, social welfare, juvenile justice, among others, on Wednesday.
The state education department team was also part of the meeting.
The visiting team, meanwhile, informed that the health condition of the 22 students is improving except one student, who is still in ICU, but in stable condition.
Two students from the state died while around 30, most from Meghalaya, had fallen ill allegedly after consuming leftover food given to them from a Holi celebration, at their residential school in Mandya district of Karnataka recently.
In view of the upcoming final examination of the students, the district administration has given priority to facilitating a system of writing exams from the rehabilitation centre itself, according to a statement issue by the education department visiting officials.
Meanwhile, chairperson of Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights wants had a brief interaction with the team from Meghalaya followed by a joint site inspection to the school where the unfortunate incident occurred, the team said.
The chairperson along with the DM also visited the under-treatment students at the hospital.
The state team, meanwhile, pushed for expedited inquiry into the incident and ensuring justice in the case.
Karnataka police already arrested three persons including the owner of the residential school and its warden in this connection.
