Significant decision 7 months after VPP took over KHADC reins
Shillong, Sep 24: Chief executive member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Shemborlang Rynjah, has resigned from his position citing “heath situation”.
The sudden decision of the Langkyrdem-Laitkroh MDC on Wednesday came just seven months after the Voice of the People Party (VPP) formed the executive committee (EC) following a landslide victory in KHADC elections.
“I am writing to inform you that I am resigning from my position as chief executive member of the KHADC on this day the 24th September 2025,” Rynjah wrote to KHADC chairman Strong Pillar Kharjana.
Citing his health reasons for the significant decision, he said, “After careful consultation, I have come to the conclusion that due to my current health situation, it’s in the best interest for both my well-being and the office that I decided to resign.”
The Council’s executive member (EM) and VPP spokesperson Powell Sohkhlet announced that Rynjah has stepped down due to health concerns.
“Although it’s difficult for us to accept this decision, prioritising his well-being is essential,” Sohkhlet said.
Sohkhlet also informed that the meeting of the VPP parliamentary party would be convened very soon to determine the next steps for the election of a new CEM for KHADC, ensuring a smooth transition of power.
Asked, the EM said, “We totally leave it to the wisdom of the party to decide on the new leadership in the KHADC.”
Rynjah was elected unopposed as KHADC chief on February 28.
