Shillong, Jan 27: NPP MDC Joseph Lakadong filed his nomination papers for KHADC elections on Monday, becoming the first candidate to file nomination for the election to be held on February 21.
The member of district council (MDC) from Laitumkhrah-Malki Fatin, who is also an executive member (EM), was accompanied by his wife and cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh during the nomination filing before the returning officer (RO) at Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), Mawlai-Mawiong.
Expressing confidence that the NPP will come back to power in KHADC, Lakadong said, “We have full faith that we will form the new EC.”
Claiming that the current EC had passed a record number of Bills, he also thanked the governor for granting is assent to several pending Bills.”
Unlike JHADC and GHADC, the EM said, salaries of KHADC were never pending.
“All our sitting MDCs are doing their part… They were there for the people so I have full faith that all our candidates will win,” he added.
Highlighting other issues, Lakadong said he would ensure that Khasi language be made compulsory in the primary education.
