Khyndailad railings turned cloth lining an eyesore’

SHILLONG, AUG 30: Shillong city’s most visited shopping centre- Khyndailad that was spruced up with high end railings by the side of footpaths and around flower gardens, has been turned into a clothing line making it an eyesore for tourists and visitors alike.

Opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) legislator from North Shillong Adelbert Nongrum on Friday expressed dismay over the use of railings at Khyndailad for “drying clothes” and called it an “eyesore”.

Raising the issue during the question hour in the Assembly, Nongrum said the incident of people drying clothes on the railings was reported on October 22, 2019.

He said that the matter is a serious issue and is an eyesore considering that Khyndailad is being visited by tourists coming to the state.

In his reply, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar said that there has been no official complaint received on the matter.

He however assured that he would immediately instruct his officers to ensure that nobody is allowed to hang clothes on the railings, which have been erected for protection of people.
