21 MDCs move petition against CEM Albinush R Marak

Tura, March 15: With hardly a month remaining for the elections to Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), a no-confidence motion against the incumbent chief executive member (CEM) Albinush R Marak will be held on Monday.

A special session of GHADC has been convened by the governor to following a petition submitted by members of the Council claiming that the CEM had lost confidence of the House.

The Governor received a petition signed by 21 members of the GHADC on March 14 alleging that the CEM Albinush R Marak no longer enjoys the support of the Executive Council, stated an official release issued on Saturday.

The GHADC consists of 30 MDCs, including 29 elected representatives and one nominated member.

The Governor has directed that the council session be convened at 11 AM at the District Council Hall in Tura.

The session has been called to conduct the trust vote and to take up any subsequent business required in accordance with the rules governing the autonomous district councils.

The Governor has also authorised the Chairman of the GHADC to preside over the session in line with the relevant provisions of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951.
