Shillong, Oct 3: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has demanded for transfer of East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem to facilitate fair probe into allegations of extortion from truckers.
Following a viral video circulated by KSU about alleged extortion at Mawkhanu and Thangshalai, KSU activists on Saturday launched a banner campaign across Motphran and other parts of Shillong, targeting the police official.
Some banners also blamed Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who is in charge of Home department, for the alleged extortion from truckers.

The KSU, meanwhile, slammed the police demolition of a shed shown on the video where the alleged extortion took place, saying it was tantamount to demolition of a “crime scene”.
One of the banners also targeted the SP for his “long tenure” in East Khasi Hills district, asking him to get transferred to other districts and “please go to Garo Hills”.
Another declared the KSU’s key demand, “Arrest corrupt police officials, Prosecute corrupt police officials”.
Lodge FIR instead of posters: Dhar
Reacting to the poster campaign, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Saturday urged the KSU to rather lodge an FIR for effective resolution of the grievance.
He lamented the “derogatory posters” of Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and the East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem in various parts of the city.

“The SP has said it very clearly. It is not good to see all these types of posters of the respective VIPs,” Dhar said when asked for his response to the poster campaign.
He urged people to take the legal route if there is any wrongdoing.
“,,,if there is anything wrong somewhere, they can go through the proper channel by filing an FIR. That is the process,” Dhar said.
“It is sad for me to see those types of allegations. We should respect each other,” he added.
The East Khasi Hills SP has already ordered a detailed probe into the alleged incident of extortion.
