Tura. April 4: Giving a boost to health and medical care in the border region of South West Garo Hills district, a new Urban Health & Wellness Centre (UHWC) at Kamarpara in Mahendraganj was opened today.

The health centre, under the Zikzak C&RD Block of the district was officially opened by Mahendraganj MLA Sanjay A Sangma, in the presence of Clement Momin, Chairman of the SDRC, Dr. H Barman, District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), the Gaonbura of Kamarpara, Village Health Council (VHC) members, local leaders, medical professionals, and a large gathering of community members.
In his address, MLA Sanjay A Sangma praised the tireless efforts of the medical team, noting the significant strides made in regional health initiatives. “This progress motivates me to collaborate even more closely with our health professionals,” he said.

Sangma highlighted the strategic importance of the UHWC, located in a densely populated area, stating that it will provide critical emergency and essential healthcare services within walking distance for residents.
He also called on the newly appointed staff to work closely with the community, the District Health Society, and the district team to ensure the center operates smoothly and meets local needs.

Dr. H Barman, DMHO, spoke of the importance in having such a facility in the area. He outlined the comprehensive range of services the UHWC will offer, which are expected to benefit not only Kamarpara but also surrounding villages. “This center reflects our commitment to improving healthcare access and quality across the region,” Dr. Barman said.

The Gaonbura of Kamarpara expressed deep gratitude to the authorities for bringing the UHWC to fruition. In an emotional speech, he congratulated the healthcare staff and urged them to serve with dedication, fostering unity and well-being in the community.
The facility is expected to play a key role in addressing the region’s healthcare challenges and improving the quality of life for its residents.
