Man, woman from Assam die in road mishap on NH-6

Nongpoh, Nov 4: A young man and his woman companion, both from Assam, met with a fatal road accident on NH-6 near Shangbangla in Ri-Bhoi district on Sunday morning.

Their Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle (AS-01 FF/3367) en route to Guwahati attempted to overtake a truck (AS-01 RC/0413) on a sharp curve the four-lane road when the tragedy took place around 9:48 am.

The bike lost control – reportedly due to over-speeding on the curve – and collided with the rear tyre of the truck, leading to both riders coming under the wheels.

The rider Nilutpal Dowari (23) from Dibrugarh and pillion rider Gargee Chutia (21) from Charaideo died on the spot.

The bodies were taken to the morgue of Civil Hospital Nongpoh for an inquest and post-mortem examination.

Medical examination was also conducted on the truck driver identified as Helmi Suting (34) at Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
