Manipur mentioned as Chin state of Manipur in NEC Vision Plan, withdrawn after complaints

Guwahati Aug 19: The North Eastern Council (NEC) made a significant error in its NEC Vision Plan 2047 by referring to Manipur as the “Chin State of Manipur.”

However, the NEC Vision Plan 2047, which was issued on August 9 by NEC secretary, was withdrawn by an order by NEC planning adviser Som Kamel on August 17.

The draft is now under review to correct the inaccuracies before any further dissemination.

The mistake in the NEC Vision Plan 2047 was found in Chapter 3, which discussed the migration of ethnic tribes in the Northeast. The document inaccurately described the “Kukis (Chin)” as originating from a non-existent “Chin State of Manipur.”

However, the document which was issued on August 9, was withdrawn on Saturday following a complaint lodged by Manipur government.

Upon discovering the error, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh promptly communicated with Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia and directed Chief Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi to take immediate corrective measures.

Following the Chief Minister’s intervention, the MDoNER took swift action to retract the draft of the Vision Plan 2047 for revisions.
