Mawsynram Mawjambuin Cave row: KSP halts protests after invitation for talks

Guwahati, Dec 24: The ongoing dispute regarding the banning of Hindu rituals in Meghalaya’s Mawsynram Mawjambuin Cave has taken a turn towards resolution. The Hindu right-wing or-ganization, Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP), announced a temporary halt to its protests following an invitation from the Meghalaya government for discussions in Shillong on January 3, 2025.

The KSP confirmed the suspension of all protest activities until January 3, citing an official invitation for talks from the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills on December 23.

KSP president Satya Ranjan Borah emphasized their decision to pause protests, stating, “We will assess the resolutions and outcomes of the meeting before deciding on further actions.”

Borah reiterated the KSP’s intent to avoid creating discord. “We are not here to hurt anyone from any religion, caste, or community. Our actions align with our constitutional duties under Article 51(A),” he added.

The organization expressed gratitude to the Meghalaya gov-ernment for initiating the dialogue process and urged the in-clusion of key stakeholders, such as representatives from the local Darbar and Seng Khasi Hima Mawsynram.

The KSP also requested a site visit to gain a better understand-ing of the cultural and religious dimensions associated with the cave.
