Meghalaya Assembly staff found dead in office

Shillong, Aug 14: An employee of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly was found dead at his desk inside the Assembly office on Tuesday morning, with authorities suspecting an overdose as the cause.

The deceased, Lachuman Shrestha, was discovered by Assembly staff who immediately notified the police. He worked as the chowkidar of the Assembly.

Upon investigation, police found Shrestha sitting lifeless on a chair, with a syringe still in his right hand and suspected drugs on a desk nearby. While an overdose is suspected, police investigation is underway to confirm the exact cause of the death.

The body has been sent to Shillong Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
