Meghalaya edge Manipur to reach NECDC women’s final

Shillong, April 12: Meghalaya booked their spot in the final of the 2nd NECDC Senior Women’s Inter State Tournament after defeating Manipur by 8 runs in a closely fought semi-final rematch on Friday. 

Notably, the initial match on Thursday was washed out due to rain.

Batting first, Meghalaya posted 109/7 in 20 overs. Luiza Tamang top-scored with 49 runs, while Daiaka Emigale Warjri contributed 27. Manipur’s bowlers put up a good fight with R.K. Linthoingambi Devi, Monica Devi Ningthoujam and Ranjita Devi Koijam picking up two wickets each.

In reply, Manipur managed 101/7, falling short by just 8 runs. Seterny Devi Brahmacharimayum was the top scorer with 45 runs. 

Meghalaya bowler Rubi Chettri took 2 wickets for just 14 runs. She was also named Player of the Match.

Meghalaya will now face hosts Sikkim in the final on Saturday morning.
