EasyLottery expected to yield significant revenue through GST collection: CM
New Delhi, Sept 10: In a bold move to boost the state finances, the government of Meghalaya on Tuesday launched India’s first fully digital lottery platform “EasyLottery.in”.
The platform, also aimed at transforming sector lottery through transparency and efficiency, offers a top prize of Rs 50 crore. It is designed to ensure a secure and seamless experience from ticket purchase to prize distribution.
Launching the initiative, chief minister Conrad K Sangma highlighted the potential of economic benefits for the state, particularly in terms of GST revenue.
“This initiative is expected to yield significant revenue for Meghalaya through GST collection,” he stated.
He also emphasised the platform’s commitment to responsible gaming, noting that safeguards are in place to help winners avoid addiction.
“Many Indians today are losing their valuable time to online games and illegal betting apps that are designed to be addictive. So an environment that does not compromise on the fun and benefit society, ensures that EasyLottery is designed to make and not break,” he said.
“When you win a prize, you are able to benefit from it and if you lose, the taxes paid on it are sown back into society and the country benefits,” he asserted.
“EasyLottery empowers winners to benefit from the prizes, but should it reach a point where they start displaying addiction or dependency tendencies, we are able to step in and help,” he added.
The chief minister further stressed the platform’s security measures, particularly the introduction of a “non-transferable ticket” policy, designed to prevent money laundering and ensure the rightful owner claims the prize. This, he said, would guarantee a secure experience for all users.
With EasyLottery.in, Sangma believes Meghalaya is set to see both economic and social benefits while setting a new standard in the lottery industry.
EasyLottery’s first prize Rs 50 crore is the largest ever first prize in the history of lotteries in India. Each ticket is priced at Rs 5,000, much lower than even international lotteries, according to an official release.
Citing a “pronounced gap” in lottery sector in India, Meghalaya State Lottery director MSN Marak said, “With the launch of EasyLottery, we are trying to bridge this gap. Our ticket sales, prize payments and tax payments will be done digitally.
“We are bringing it to the people of the country after extensive and intensive research… it will also eliminate any kind of scam or money laundering,” she said.
